Maji Restaurant @ Central Richmond
Food: 3.5/5 Service: 3.5/5 Atmosphere: 3.5/5 Price: Avg. $20/person
Maji is an authentic Taiwanese restaurant located on Alexandra road in central Richmond. Heard Maji is always busy with long waiting time so our friend made reservation in advance for 4 of us. We were there at 7; all tables were occupied and there was line up already. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated. We came with high expectations because of the goods review. Taiwanese cuisine is one of my favorites; the distinctive flavors and basil! The dishes were tapas style here. They have a specialty Taiwanese beer selection and surprisingly they did not have bubble teas on the menu. Impressive! LOL.
Chicken leg stir-fried with San-Pei sauce, tossed with basil
The flavor was pretty good. The San-Pei sauce was rich and flavorful but the flavor did not get into the chicken. It was more like coating the chicken. The texture was still good.
Basil Clams @ $10.99

Clam sautéed with garlic and ginger; tossed with basil

Deep fried shrimps tossed with pineapple and house special dressing, garnished with parsley
My favorite dish! The deep fried shrimps were light batter and crispy. The sauce was very creamy and the thickness was just about right. The taste was delicious, good balance of sweetness with a hint of sourness. Refreshing!
Boiled cabbage served with fried soybean crumbs
It was tasty but the soybean flavor was a lil salty to me; good match to eat with bowl of rice.
Sesame oil chicken soup @ 7.25
Chicken broth with goji berries, chicken leg, Chinese date and sesame oil
The chicken soup was so piping hot and delicious! Oops, I forgot to take picture of it.

Two-thumb up! I fall in love the fruit-flavored beer! I ordered lychee flavored beer and it was so delicious! The flavor was light and crisp. I had a sip the Beer Weissbier of hubby; I like the strong malt aroma and flavor a lot too.
The dishes were appy size, good enough portion to share and allowed us to try more dishes. Overall the food quality was good at a reasonable price range. I strongly recommend to make reservation in advance to avoid the pain waiting time. Also, parking on Alexandra Road is nuts; be prepared to spare some time for getting a parking spot.
