604 Just Eat: Japanese Cuisine @ Kanpeki Teppanyaki Restaurant

Mar. 28th, 2015

Kanpeki Teppanyaki Restaurant [松板日式鐵板料理] @ Richmond

Food:  2.5/5   Service:  2/5   Atmosphere:  2/5   Price: 3/5

Kanpeki Teppanyaki is located on Alexandra road in Richmond.  We had a large group of 13 people so we were seated in the dining room and served by 2 chefs.  A friend ordered a few meal sets of 4 or 6 for total 13 people.  I did not know what we ordered until the chef came and began to prepare.
The meal started from a green salad.  I forgot to take picture of it.

Chef was cooking the Foie Gras.

Foie Gras on Toast
Lack of the exquisite taste and smell of Foie Gras.  It was still rich and buttery.

Lobster Miso Soup
Average.  I expected the soup was richer and more flavorful.

Lobster Tails & Claws
You cannot go wrong with fresh seafood and butter so the taste was good but not impressive.

Beef Usuyaki
Fried garlic chips and green onions wrapped in thin slices of beef. The insides were crunchy and the beef was tender and moist.

 Beef Cubes
Tender and quite juicy, not overcooked.

Slice of Tofu

Mixed Vegetables
Light seasoning, it was good.

Fried Rice

Overall, the food quality was satisfactory but nothing was extraordinary.  Price is fair in terms of the food and portions.  However, sanitary requires some room of improvement.  When I walked to the washroom, the floor was a bit greasy and slippery which can happen something very bad.   I probably will not come back until I hear some good improvements.

Mar. 26th, 2015

Kongee Dinesty [金津粥品專門店] @ Richmond

Food:  4/5   Service:  3.5/5   Atmosphere:  3.5/5   Price: 3/5

NEW!!!  Kongee Dinesty, a new Chinese restaurant located on Garden City/ Capstan Way.
A friend strongly recommended me to come and try this congee place so we chose to come at a Thursday night.
Oh-oh, they are more than just a congee place.  They serve congee at the day time and they switch to serve traditional Chinese dishes at the night time.  Although we could not try their congee this time, I am very happy to enjoy the Chinese dishes that we ordered.
MUST EAT:  Stir Fried Rice Cake with Chicken

 New and modern décor.
Attentive and friendly service.

604 Just Eat: Japanese Cuisine @ Ramen Butcher

Mar. 25th, 2015

Ramen Butcher @ Chinatown

Food:  2.5/5   Service:  3/5   Atmosphere:  3/5   Price: 3/5

We were too lazy cooking on a rainy Wednesday we decided to go for Ramen!
Ramen Butcher is a new Ramen place at Chinatown that runs by Menya Jouji.  It is a famous Japanese group that runs 150 ramen bars in Japan.

We were there around 8ish and no line up.  Lucky!

I love it!

7-type of Ramen - we picked BLACK and ORANGE
Options of Lean or Fatty Pork when you place order.  You can add extra noodles for free.

My ORANGE:  Tonkotsu (pork) broth with rich miso marinated ground pork.
House made noodles with aburi pork chashu and a medium boiled marinated egg @ $11.55
The Miso Tonkotsu broth was thick and flavorful.

Hubby's BLACKTonkotsu (pork) broth with roasted garlic oil, house made noodles with aburi pork, chashu and a medium boiled marinated egg @ $10.95
The roasted garlic oil Tonkotsu broth was so so.  The broth was rich and not too greasy but we enjoyed ORANGE over the BLACK.

The noodles were handmade in house here.  They were thin noodles like Chinese [Dandan noodles].  Too bad the noodle was not what I like and no special at all.  The texture was like the typical Shanghaiese noodles.
The Chashu was tender and delicious but one-piece only?!

Additional Mini Chashu Rice
The chashu portion was generous in a mini bowl of rice.  Okay tasting but no special.

After tasting it, it is not the best ramen in town but still averagely good.  Ramen Butcher would not be my favorite ramen bar ; I still think "Kintaro" is better overall because I like their rich egg flavor and chewy noodles more.

Chill Chill Dinner @ Sida's Kitchen

Chicken tights and Potato Stew [薯仔燜雞] + Pan Fried Kai Lan  [炒介蘭] + Chinese Style Soup [花膠雪耳湯]

 Home Dinner on Wednesday.
Prep Time:  30-min.
Cooking time:  50-min.
Recipe upon from request.

First of all, super thanks to my friend, Sarah Yeung for the homemade recipe of Chicken Wings and Potato Stew.  This is a very popular homemade dish among many Chinese families.

I used skinless chicken tights for cooking this time.  It is a healthier choice to cook skinless chicken tight to substitute chicken wings.

Pan-fried the sliced onions and potatoes until slightly golden.

Added the sauce to sliced onions and potatoes.

Nice Try!  Hubby said it was good!

I always sauté the ginger until fragrant before adding vegetables.

Soup Preparation!  I added soybeans instead of meat.

 Finished!

Hm.. Sugar craving can be very intense and scary.  I needed some real good desserts to satisfy my sweet tooth!  Sweet Obsession came to my mind immediately.
How can I miss this adorable and lovely café?

OMG!  my eyes cannot leave the display shelves...

More Pastries!

My to-go desserts!

Seasonal dessert:  Spring Time Surprise @ $10
Pretty!!!!  Heart Shape Chocolate Mousse Cake with a cute nest and mini eggs on top.

Yummy!  The chocolate mousse cake was very creamy, moist and rich flavor. The berries filling was very fresh and fruity.  Thumbs up!

My another pick:  Pithivier @ $4.50

Lovely puff pastry with chocolate and almond filling; a very light dessert perfectly with a cup of Earl Grey tea.

It was quite busy at a Saturday night and friendly service as always!  The staff introduced us the cakes and pastries before we made our choice selection.  Last but not least, desserts were totally delicious!  We will be back!!!

604 Just Eat: Teochew Cuisine @ JC Kitchen Chiuchow Flair [潮味館]

Mar. 21st, 2015

JC Kitchen Chiuchow Flair [潮味館] @ Richmond

Food:  3.5/5   Service:  3.5/5   Atmosphere:  3/5   Price: 2/5

JC Kitchen is located in the industrial area near No. 6 and Steveston highway.  We spent quite some time to find it.  Honestly, the overall image outside was like one of those typical Chinese restaurant that serve wonton soup and sweet and soup pork chop.  My fault!  Luckily, we did not drive away and give it a try.  It was definitely worth to come for some authentic Chiu Chow food.

Chiu Chow Ho-Fen with Seaweed and Fishballs @ $8.80

Very flavorful broth with lots of bean sprouts, seaweed and minced pork with the touches of dried fish and roasted garlic.  Lovely!
Fishball was mild flavor and okay fresh.

Hand pulled Noodles with Pork Tripe, Salted Vegetables and Pepper @ $8.50
It was so good and delicious!
The broth was richer than I thought!
I like the hand pulled noodles texture over the Ho-Fen.

I enjoyed my noodles a lot and I will definitely come back again for dinner to try more authentic Chiu Chow dishes.
