604 Just Eat: Desserts @ Laduree

June 14th, 2016

Laduree @ Downtown

Food:  4/5   Service:  3.5/5   Atmosphere:  4/5   Price:  Avg. $25 person

Laduree - the ultimate luxurious brand of classic Parisian macarons.
I have been to Laduree in Hong Kong and NYC but I was quite excited to hear Laduree was opening in Vancouver, one more macaron spot to go when I have intense craving for macarons.  Pictures of the lineup extended out of the store were all over my IG since the opening.  I was thinking to go visit when the line was less crazy then hubby was home after work with a box of macarons, all 16 flavors on the shelves the day.  HAPPY!!!  When lots of people say macarons are too sweet for them, I ate 6 pieces right after dinner, equal over 1000 calories.  LOL.
The meringue shell was soft and fluffy, mildly moist and half melted in my mouth.  The fillings were fresh and tasty, especially the fruity ones.  The creamy filling was good too, such as salted caramel and pistachio.  Great varieties of flavors, my favorites were lemon, raspberry and rose.  Delicious!

One thing I dislike is we have to pay for the packaging box of the macarons!

604 Just Eat: Pacific Northwest Cuisine @ Oru

Jan 24th, 2016

Oru @ Coal Harbor

Food:  2.5/5   Service:  3.5/5   Atmosphere:  4/5   Price:  Avg. $50/person

We picked a few places among the list for Dine out Vancouver and Oru was one of them.  We heard some really good comments on the food as well as the voices of the over priced menu.  Therefore, we decided to go and check it out, see if the dishes really worth it!
We were a bit disappointed at the food quality, probably because we have set a high expectation at Oru.  I did not know whether it was just the dine out; the food was okay but not impressive at all.  It would be overpriced if this is the dish quality for regular menu.  I did not feel this is worth it then.

604 Just Eat: Desserts @ Le Petit Belge

Dec 29th, 2015

Le Petit Belge @ Downtown

Food:  3.5/5   Service:  3.5/5   Atmosphere:  3.5/5   Price:  Avg. $9/person

We woke up early because of crazy jet lag so we decided to head out for breakfast.  We were planning to go Gastown at first then we saw the waffles menu board of Le Petit Belge on Robson.  We end up decided to try some waffles for brekkie.  We have never been here before.  Le Petit Belge is a small cafe specialized in waffles (sweet and savory), baked sweets and of course coffee.  Dishes were in well presentation and looked so pretty!  My eyes keep checking the waffle dishes at other tables!  The portions of the toppings are big too.  LOL.

Dec 3rd, 2015

Ramen Danbo @ Downtown

Food:  3.5/5   Service:  3.5/5   Atmosphere:  3.5/5   Price:  Avg. $45/person

Another ramen craving night!  I know Ramen Danbo has been opened quite a while already at the West 4th location in Kitsilano then we saw their second location of Danbo on Robson Street!  Ramen Danbo is an authentic Japanese noodles bar specialized in traditional Fukuoka Tonkotsu Ramen with over 20 locations across Japan.  We decided to hit Danbo after work.  We came here around 7ish and so lucky that the queue was short.  We got to sit down after only 15 minutes wait, not bad!

604 Just Eat: Japanese Cuisine @ Guu Garden

Jul 25th, 2015

Guu Garden @ Downtown

Food:  4/5   Service:  4/5   Atmosphere:  4/5   Price:  Avg. $24 person

Guu Garden is one of my favorite restaurants especially summer time.  The patio is so lovely to sit out on a warm summer and you definitely cannot miss out the Kirin frozen beer here!  The environment/table is less crowd compared with other Izakaya places.
 MUST EAT:  Saba Shima Sushi

604 Just Eat: Vietnamese Cuisine @ Downtown

Jul 23rd, 2015

24 Train Express Noodle House @ Downtown

Food:  2/5   Service:  2.5/5   Atmosphere:  2/5   Price:  Avg. $13 person

Pho, a comfort food of mine. We usually visit PHO house 2-3 times a month.
We were too lazy cooking after work (even too lazy to drive for dinner); therefore, we decided to go for Pho at 24 Train Express which is only 5 minutes walk from home.  The restaurant was emptied when we walked in; a big question mark on my mind, STAY or NOT?  Lol.

604 Just Eat: Pacific Northwest Cuisine @ The Teahouse

Apr. 18th, 2015

The Teahouse @ Stanley Park

Food:  4/5   Service:  4/5   Atmosphere:  4.5/5   Price:  Avg. $35/person

Teahouse is located in Stanley Park by the Third Beach.  Beautiful and stunning view of the oceans.  If you come for dinner, the view is exactly where the sunset is.  The view is totally breathtaking and romantic.
We haven't been to Teahouse for few years already.  We picked to come again for lunch before heading to our road trip for the wedding anniversary celebration!  Plus, my boss at my previous work in Hong Kong was in town for business.  I chose to bring her to teahouse to enjoy the wonderful natural environment of Stanley park and lovely weather besides the food before leaving to airport.
Must Eat:  Teahouse Stuffed Mushrooms, Salmon Flatbread and Mussels
Cute and romantic house with the beautiful patio and garden.

We were in the West End area for dinner so I decided to go Chicco for some desserts.

They serve more than just Japanese parfaits now.

604 Just Eat: Japanese Izakaya @ Gyoza King [餃王]

Feb. 26th, 2015

Gyoza King [餃王] @ Robson Street

Food:  3.5/5   Service:  3/5   Atmosphere:  2.5/5   Price:  3/5

Gyoza King is one of the popular Izakaya place in Vancouver Downtown since 90's.  I haven't been there for a long time.  We came here tonight for my good friend's birthday.  We remember that we used to come a lot in the old days;  good old memories suddenly all came back!  LOL.
MUST EAT:  Gyu Yukke, Ebi Mayo

Gyu Yukke
Beautiful!  Chopped raw beef was so juicy and flavorful with the sweet soy sauce and raw quail egg.  Must Eat item.

Negitoro
Chopped albacore tuna sashimi with Seaweed.  Fresh, above average quality.

Ganso Gyoza
Homemade Gyoza (Pork and Vegetables)
It was good but not extremely impressive.  Compared with my memories, the flavor was much better before.

Avocado and Tuna Salad
No special.

Ebi Mayo
Pretty shrimps were deep-fried lightly with tasty seasoning and not oily at all.  Must eat item.

Robata
Nicely grilled, it was good.

Yaki Udon
The taste was mild, light sweet soy sauce flavor.

Agedashi Tofu
No special, average quality.

It was nice to know that they're still doing pretty good on the food quality and services.  There are many options of Izakaya restaurants in Vancouver now.  I think Gyoza King should work harder on their signature dishes and new seasonal dishes in order to stay competitive in the market.  Worth to come back in the near future.

604 Just Eat: Indian Fine Dining @ Copper Chimney Indian Grill and Bar

Feb. 14th, 2015

Copper Chimney Indian Grill and Bar @ Hornby St.

Food:  4/5   Service:  3.5/5   Atmosphere:  4/5   Price:  3/5

We chose to go Copper Chimney to enjoy our Valentines dinner.  They had a special Valentines menu made for two, enable us to try multiple dishes at a time.  Everything came in good size and tasty.

Menu of the day

Bread Basket - garlic naan, whole wheat roti, jalapeno and cumin yogurt raita dip.
I like the garlic naan with the dip a lot.  The naan was light and crisp.  The dip was rich and thick, very flavorful.  I ate more naan and roti because of it.

Coconut Spiced Prawns - Tasted OK, prawns were fresh and well cooked (not overcooked).  They looked like Japanese prawn tempura though.
Samosas Vegetable - Thumbs up!  One of my favorites in the dinner.  It was light crispy texture on the outside with warm and refreshing marzano tomato and mango chutney inside.

Lamb Lollipops - meat was tender and flavorful.
Chicken Korma - a lil bit spicy, great combo to eat with the basmati rice and nann.  I like the Mint Chutney too, very refreshing after some spicy dishes.
Sambal Green Beans - quite spicy to me so I didn't eat much.

Dessert - Flourless Chocolate Spice Cake.  No surprise.

I had a good experience here!  I heard they do have groupon offers or some promotions from time to time.  Check out those for good deal before going.
