Kaya Malay Bistro @ Fairview
Food: 3/5 Service: 3.5/5 Atmosphere: 3.5/5 Price: Avg. $33/person
I have never been to Kaya Malay Bistro before and I was quite excited after reading some good reviews about this restaurant. The decor and layout are more like Western-style restaurants with dim lights. We were invited to attend a company dinner and the set menu was ordered. There were total 11 dishes in the menu. The dishes were good overall but they were more like fusion style, combination of Malaysian and Asian food.
Appetizer Sampler
Papaya and Mango Salad
Tofu Goreng
Curry Chicken/Beef
Soft Shell Crab
Sambal Green Bean
Otak Sole Fillet
Mee/Nasi Goreng
Trio Dessert Sampler:
Kuih Dadar, Pisang Goreng, Vanilla Ice-cream
$28/person
The roti was okay but it could be better. It was not crispy and flaky enough on the outside.
The dishes of the set dinner were absolutely okay at this price and portion size. However, I have to say that Kaya Malay is not my cup of tea. Personally I like the authentic style better that are filled with distinctive and strong flavors of herbs and spices. The dishes here did not have the traditional flavors of Malaysian food that I have been craving for.
