Jinya Ramen Bar @ Kerrisdale
Food: 3.5/5 Service: 3.5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Price: Avg. $30 person
Jinya Ramen @ the heart of Kerrisdale is their second location in Vancouver. We have been waiting to try this location since they opened, we saw the long queue each time we drove by which driving me big interest to come a bowl of ramen. The line up was shorter tonight and the waiting time was around 20 minutes which was not bad. Unlike other ramen joints, Jinya has more tapas and dishes options. Ramen wise, I really like the texture of the noodles especially the thick ones, chewy and al dente! For the Tonkotsu broth, the broth is less rich and flavors compared with other joints. It was a good news for people who likes less heavy and thick broth.
We sat by the bar, open kitchen.
Cheers!!!
Tapas - Brussels Sprouts Tempura w/ Truffle Oil @ $6.20

Very interesting tapas! The tempura was great, light crispy on the outside with the flavors of truffle oil, delicious!
Tasted like Chinese gyoza from the frozen packs at stores and pretty oily.

pork broth: pork chashu, kikurage, green onion, nori dried seaweed, seasoned egg, garlic chips, garlic oil, fried onion, served with thin noodles
The noodles was great texture, perfect firmness. The tonkotsu broth was not thick and heavy kind. The broth tasted less complicated flavors, less salt and seasonings but missing the rich taste and depth of flavors in the broth. Generous amount of noodles, the chashu and toppings were pretty good portion too. I like the toppings like kikurage, fried onions, garlic chips and oil which enhancing the flavors and texture.
I was a lil disappointed at the soil boiled egg, it was overdone so no creamy yolk.

pork broth: pork chashu, kikurage, green onion, seasoned egg, spicy bean sprouts, served with THICK noodles
Hubby likes the taste of #3 more than #1 because of the white pepper flavor in the broth. Overall it was good but lacking a pleasant aroma of ramen.
The curry sauce was average, typical Japanese curry flavors. Surprisingly the rice was really good when usually ramen joints not doing good at cooking rice.
Average.
