East is East @ Main Street
Food: 4/5 Service: 3.5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Price: Avg. $35/person
East is East, a famous Indian & Middle East restaurant located on Main Street. It is one of the smoking HOT and BUSY restaurants in town. We have not been to East is East a year already. We came again because our good friend was in town for a very sudden short trip. Luckily we were able to make a reservation on a Friday night. We came here a group of 5. They are well known for wide selections of dishes from Middle East with lots of vegan options so it was a great choice for our friend who is a vegetarian. We chose to bring her here to enjoy the vegan dishes as well as the interesting décor and the live music performance. Yahh! Always get excited when good friends back to town and meet with us @ 604! Our silk road started!
Must Eat: Mediterranean Platter, Eastern Roti Rolls
Very interesting and exotic interior and atmosphere.
Free chai tea sample. Our server told us it was soy immediately when she put down the teas. We appreciated a lot since one of our friends does allergic to soymilk. Thumbs up!
Pirate Chai @ $9 1/2
Masala Chai, rum, nutmeg, cinnamon
Wow, very strong rum; the flavor was good!
Zevia Coke!
Eastern Roti Rolls - I really like the rolls a lot! Great choices of vegetarian options! Too bad I took picture of one roll only; it should be Gandhi's Breakfast. All ingredients and herbs were well cooked and tasted so delicious together. Best vegetarian wraps I have ever had!
The Gypsy @ $15 1/2
Baked eggplant, mango butternut squash with Afghan rice.
Gandhi's Breakfast @ $15 1/2
Whipped spinach with mushrooms.
Mango Prawns @ $13
Prawns sautéed in a spicy mango, lime leaf and star anise curry on basmati rice.
Prawns were fresh and well cooked (not overcooked at all). Taste was okay; I like the vegetarian dishes more.
Tibetan Mantu @ $14
Dumplings stuffed with green onions, chives and herbs (dairy).
Very interesting! I like this vegetarian dumplings a lot. The sauce was super creamy and buttery with great layers of favors.
Mediterranean Platter @ $21
Organic quinoa salad, hommus, baba ghanoush, olives, roasted garlic clove, boulani, mint, date and feta cheese (vegan option).
Oh my god it was so good, absolutely delicious. The roti with the dip was the best combo. The roti was light and crisp. The dip was rich and thick, full of spice and herbs flavors. I ate more roti because of it.
Chicken Masala - Chicken in creamy masala and herbs (dairy)
Chicken was a lil dry and stiff; it was not the kind I like. Taste was okay.Lamb cooked in onion, sundried tomato garlic and five spice curry with mushrooms and potatoes.
I like the curry sauce, creamy and mild spicy. The meat was okay, not impressive.
We had a great silk road experience here! LOL.
Everything came in good size and very decent; all dishes were delicious and well prepared. Vegan dishes were better taste than meat dishes. It can be bloody hard to find parking spot so be prepared to arrive early for parking. One and the only one dislike was that we had to wait 25 minutes for our table even though we made reservation and been there on time.
