604 Just Eat: Thai Cuisine @ Simply Thai

June 11th, 2016

Simply Thai @ Yaletown

Food:  2.5/5   Service:  3.5/5   Atmosphere:  3.5/5   Price:  Avg. $42 person

Simply Thai is a good place for friends gathering but the taste was not as original as what I had in Thailand.  Taste wise it was average because I was looking for the true THAI food experience.  Suggest to add more flavors from the fresh herbs, spices and tamarind.  Their staffs were nice and attentive.  Price wise it was a bit pricey compared to the quality of the food.

Nice and clean environment

Tom Yum Talay @ $15
Combination of seafood in hot and sour soup with lemon grass, fresh mushroom, green onion, cilantro kaffir leaves and chili paste
The color of the soup was just not right to me.  It was more like a Chinese style hot and sour soup.  Taste wise it was okay but lack of seasoning and the distinctive flavors of spices.  I could not taste coconut milk in it.

Som Tum @ $12
Julienne of green papaya with fresh lime juice, tomatoes, peanuts and chilies. Garnished with fresh greens (seasonal)
Light and refreshing salad.

Pad Thai (The Real Way) @ $15
Pan-fried Thai rice-noodles in tamarind sauce with shrimps or chicken, eggs tofu, green onions, bean sprouts and ground peanuts
"Sweetened" Pad Thai?!  Why Why Why it tasted so sweet and swamped in sauce the noodles underneath.  FAR from the real way!  The sauce tasted like ketchup with lots of sugar.

Satay Gai @ $12
Sliced chicken breast marinated in exotic herbs with coconut milk and spices, served with homemade peanut sauce
Meat was tender and delicious.  I like the homemade peanut sauce, thick texture and rich taste.

Gaeng Kiew-Wan (Green Curry) @ $16
Chicken sauteed in green curry coconut milk & bamboo shoots, bell peppers & Thai basil leaf
The taste of the green curry seemed closer to the original!  Taste wise the curry was good and flavorful.  It was not considered authentic as some ingredients were missing like eggplants and kobocha squash and beans.  Probably some ingredients were omit or replaced from the green curry paste as well.  Overall it was tasty.

Enjoy the curry with rice.

Overall the food quality was okay but not in the REAL Thai taste.  Do not think I will go back again.  And, don't trust the awards stickers at the entrance!
