604 Just Eat: Japanese Style Italian Cuisine @ Kinemi's Kitchen

Aug 7th/26th/28th & Sept 11th, 2015

Kinemi's Kitchen @ South Burnaby

Food:  4.5/5   Service:  4/5   Atmosphere:  3.5/5   Price:  Avg. $15 person

Kinemi's Kitchen is definitely a hidden gem located in a small arcade near the Champlain residential area.  It is a home-cooked style Japanese café operated by a Japanese couple.  Kinemi runs by like a typical small restaurant in Japan that the chef is doing for all the preparing and cooking in the kitchen and the lady is doing everything else like taking orders and serving.  Kinemi's Kitchen specializes in Japanese-style Western Cuisine; absolutely delicious especially their signature pasta.  I really like the neighborhood environment too; so quiet and peaceful.  It is a very hidden spot; not easy to find or even notice it at all if my colleagues did not bring me there!  Their quality is absolutely outstanding and impressive among the Japanese-style Western Cuisine restaurants in Vancouver.  It has become one of my all time favorite restaurants now and I just realize I have visited Kinemi 4 times for lunch already since August.  Here were the dishes that I had during the visits:
 MUST EAT:  Seafood Pasta, Pizza

Garlic Cheese Bread @ $4
Our house garlic butter spread topped with mozzarella cheese
OMG this is so good!  Delicious hot crunchy toast with thick layer of cheese and seasoning.  SO Garlicky, cheesy and EVIL!!!  LOL.

Steamed Mussels & Bread @ $11
Big surprise to us!!!
Giant fresh mussels bathing in the delectable tomato broth.  Great taste!  It was on the daily specials board; not the regular menu.

Seafood Linguine @ $12
Prawns, scallops, squid and clams in a light tomato sauce
Seafood pasta is one of their signature dishes.  It did not disappoint me.  2 thumbs up the pasta texture.  AL DENTE!!!  I fall in love the amazing and chewy texture; it was cooked to perfection.  The sauce was light and creamy; well seasoned and flavorful but did not cover the fresh taste of seafood.

Spaghetti Carbonara @ $11.50
Bacon with a custard and cheese sauce
The carbonara was amazing!  The sauce was so rich, creamy and smooth.  The taste was stronger compared with other pasta dishes but not greasy at all.  Absolutely delicious and made me mouth water now!  Compared with the Carbonara at Café de l'Orangerie, Kinemi's Carbonara has better layering and depths of flavor.

Spaghetti @ Assorted Mushrooms, Garlic and Truffle Oil @ $15
Wonderful vegetarian choice!  It was good too.

Smoked Salmon Linguine @ $13
Smoked salmon with spinach in a creamy tomato sauce and served with wasabi aioli
This sauce was thicker and heavier.  The tomato sauce had a hint of spicy favor, not from typical black pepper but WASABI!!!! Very interesting!

Pizza - Chicken Pesto @ $9.50
Chicken accented in our house pesto, mozzarella, tomato sauce

Pizza - Seafood @ $10
Prawns, scallops, clams, mozzarella and tomato sauce

Very homemade style pizza!  The hearty house-made pizza here was different from the others.  The thin golden crust was very crispy and fluffy.  The bread was just the right amount of chewiness with generous portions of toppings.  The taste of the house pesto was especially good and refreshing.

Dishes were mind blowing and well prepared!  Premium dishes with fresh ingredients.  Highly appreciated the owner who paying great effort achieving such good quality food.  Remember to check out their daily specials on the menu board, they change the specials on board very frequently.  Very limited parking spots in this small arcade but it is easy to find free street parking in the area.  It is a cozy and comfortable place for small group causal meals at very affordable pricing range.  Highly recommended seafood dishes here.  You must go try it, you cannot go wrong!
