604 Just Eat: Japanese Cuisine @ Suika

Sept 11th, 2015

Suika @ Fairview

Food:  4/5   Service:  4/5   Atmosphere:  4/5   Price:  Avg. $30 person

Suika is one of the popular Izakaya restaurants located on West Broadway across Earl's.
We went there for dinner with a group of 5 to celebrate a friend's birthday on Friday night.  Suika is also one of our top favorite Izakaya places in town and I was so excited to see their updated  menu.  We have not been here like ages so at least it was new to me.  The decor, wooden furniture and atmosphere are very "izakaya" and the greeting is always very welcoming when you enter to the restaurant.  It is a great pleasure to enjoy the cocktails and tapa dishes here.  We had a great night too; however, the only drawback was the noises, too LOUD.  The staff were too excited to sing (shout) Happy Birthday song few times a night.  LOL.  Each one of us had to speak loud and listen to others very carefully.
MUST EAT:  AAA Beef Garlic Steak & Aburi "Shime-Saba" Sushi

 Tuna Avocado @ $6.80
Good starter.  I like the miso sauce.

 Negitoro Tartar @ $6.20
Interesting flavor; kimchi sauce marinated chopped tuna and scallions on toast.  Made me want to eat more and more.

AAA Beef Garlic Steak @ $19
Beautiful!  The meat was so tender and juicy.  Light seasoning and the flavor was absolutely delicious with the soy onion sauce.  No need additional seasonings and flavors when the meat was nice and fresh.  Must eat item!

 Aburi "Shime-Saba" Sushi (Mackerel Sushi) @ $12.80
MY top favorite!  Highly recommended if you like pressed sushi.  The seared saba was soooo fresh and delicious!  The rice texture was perfect.  Must eat item!
 Aburi Toro Battera $12.80
The lightly seared toro was amazing; almost melted in my mouth.  I like the sauce the best; it was a home made soy dressing & seaweed sauce which made the flavor so unique.

My Ebi-mayo @ $8.80
Light and Crispy; fried perfectly.

Kakuni Bibimbap @ $9.80
Opps... forgot to take picture.  LOL.
HOT HOT HOT!  Quite spicy for myself.

 Tako Karaage @ $8.80
Deep fried tako; a lil chewy.

 Pork Feet@ $6.80
A lil oily to me...but perfect tapa dish with a pitcher of beer.

 Grilled Duck @ $8.80
Grilled duck breast with tomato granny smith apple slices and special sauce.
Refreshing sauce!!!  The meat was so tender and moist.

 Matcha Brulee @ $5.20
Frozen matcha crème brulee with fresh whipped cream &red bean sauce
Happy Sweet Tooth!

Yukimi Daifuku @ $4.80
Compared with the Matcha Brulee, I like the Daifuku more!  It was green tea & red bean gelato wrapped in sticky rice cake.

The last thing I got to mention, cocktails are very delicious at Suika!  I just found I forgot to take pictures of our drinks.  Probably we were too thirsty!  Suka Calpico Soda and Yuzu Calpico Soda are the signature drinks here; they were flavorful and easy drinks for ladies.  My green tea plum wine was good too; blends of sweet and sour tastes.  Perfect match with the Izakaya dishes.  Dishes were decent and tasty overall; the price range was reasonable for its quality.  Although the food portions were smaller compared with the old days, service was great and prompt as always.  It was nice to know that they're still doing pretty good on the food quality and services.  Worth to come back in the future.
