604 Just Eat: Vietnamese Cuisine @ Phnom Penh

Aug 20th, 2015

Phnom Penh @ Chinatown

Food:  4/5   Service:  3/5   Atmosphere:  3/5   Price:  Avg. $20 person

Phnom Penh, a super popular Vietnamese/Cambodian cuisine restaurant on East Georgia Street in Chinatown.  Phnom Penh is one of the smoking HOT and BUSY restaurants in town.  It is a "must go" place if you are a Vietnamese food lover!  You have to go Phnom Penh because you cannot go wrong.  The menu has wide selections of Vietnamese and Cambodian dishes which you cannot find in other Vietnamese joints.  We would not mind facing line up for delicious dishes so my friends went there first around 6pm.  Hubby and I rushed to Chinatown after pick up Hubby from work.  They did not let us to have the table until all 6 of us arrived to the restaurant.  At last the waiting time was around 45 minutes but we were told we only got 40 minutes to eat.    We placed our order while waiting so the food came really fast after seated.
MUST EAT:  Butter Beef & Beef Luc Lac

Butter Beef @ $13.95
Thinly sliced specially prepared rare beef on a bed of fried garlic, cilantro and our house special sauce
Highly recommended!!!!  The marinated sauce was so refreshing and the beef was melted in my mouth.  it was like a Veitnamese version of beef tataki.  You cannot find this dish at typical pho joints.  Absolutely delicious.

Butter Chicken
One of their most signature dishes.
Very crispy!  SO Garlicky!

Spicy Basil Clams @ $15.5
Cambodian style stir-fried clams with chilli and basil leaves
The clams were very fresh and cooked perfectly.  The spicy level was just about right and did not cover the taste of the clams.

BBQ Lemongrass Pork Chops @ $8.95
Pork chops seasoned with lemongrass & grilled to perfection
The grilled pork chop was tasty.

Sauteed Pea Tips @ $13.95
Freshly picked pea tips, sautéed with garlic
Standard.

Trieu Chau Fried Oyster Cake @ $14.50
Chopped oyster and egg pan-fried to perfection.  Served with special sauce
The batter was too thick and kind of greasy; it was not the kind of oyster cake I like.

Filet Beef Luc Lac on Rice with Egg @ $10.95
Perfectly stir-fried seasoned beef with sunny side up egg on rice (soup on the side upon request)
One of their signature dishes here; the beef was cooked amazingly delicious.  MUST EAT item; highly recommended.  It was a great comfort food after a long day of work.  Thumbs up!

This place kicks ass!  Everything was so delicious!  All dishes were decent and well prepared.  Great place for causal dining.  You need lots of patience to eat here but it's definitely worth it.  I would not mind the long wait and definitely come back again!
