604 Just Eat: Japanese Style Western Cuisine @ Cafe de L'Orangerie

May 30th, 2015

Café de l'Orangerie @ Marpole

Food:  4/5   Service:  3.5/5   Atmosphere:  3/5   Price:  Avg. $19/person

We had dinner at Penang Delight last month and we saw a little Japanese café right next door in Marpole.  Finally we decided to make a trip to try out Café de l'Orangerie with my best girl and her family on a Saturday night.  I heard that lots of people like this place!
Must Eat:  Hamburger Steak, Sesame & Miso Sauce Tuna Sashimi

Café de l'Orangerie is a Japanese run café that serves Japanese-style Western Cuisine such as spaghetti, curry with rice, hamburger steak, croquette and desserts.

We were there at 6 so they were not busy yet.

Simple and cozy environment.  Lovely!

Sesame & Miso Sauce Tuna Sashimi @ $6.50
Fresh and delicious.  I like the sauce a lot; perfect match with the tuna sashimi way more than the typical spicy sauce at sushi joints.

Homemade Croquette, 3 pieces @ $10
Potato, rice, edamame, and meat
The croquettes were deep fried to golden brown color.  Very light and crispy batter but not greasy at all.
Inside was so soft and filled with sticky rice, onions, minced meat, mashed potatoes and edamame.  Interesting!

Spaghetti Carbonara with Hamburger Steak @ $13.80
Entrée for my friend's husband.  Looks good!

Creamy Tomato Spaghetti @ $9.80
Chicken, mushroom, garlic
Hm... Bad pick for myself.  Spaghetti texture was good but the taste was so so; no special at all.

Masago de Creamy Spaghetti @ $9.80
Squid, mushroom, asparagus, roe, cream
Entrée for my friend.  I tried a bit of it and the sauce was rich and creamy.  Great taste!

Curry with Pork Cutlet + Hamburger Steak with Rice @ $11.95 + $4
Entrée for hubby.  The curry was okay but impressive.  Usually the spicy level of Japanese curry is light and mild but this one we would say moderate spicy.
Hubby said the hamburger steak was soooo good in quality, very flavorful and juicy in good texture.  Must Eat!

I walked in with very high expectations after viewing all the good reviews.  Dishes were OKAY and well prepared but definitely not "WOW" .  Good and efficient service.  Lots of free street parking in the area.  It is a cool place for small group causal dinner.  No stomach space for desserts this time so I will definitely come back to try some desserts next time.
